Follow these steps to ensure proper healing.
Wash hands before handling your fresh tattoo. Keeping your tattoo clean is essential to proper healing and avoiding infection.
Do NOT itch or pick at your tattoo.
Approximate healing time: 2-4 weeks
Supplies needed: antibacterial soap, salve or ointment, fragrance-free lotion
Day 1-3
TRADITIONAL BANDAGE
Keep the bandage on for 2-4 hours. Wash gently with antibacterial soap and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean paper towel and apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment.
DERMSHIELD
If using dermshield, keep dermshield on for 3-4 days. You will notice plasma and ink accumulating within the dermshield - this is normal. Do NOT pop this.
If you notice the dermshield irritating your skin or causing itchiness, remove immediately and clean as instructed.
Days 4-7
TRADITIONAL BANDAGE
Wash 2-3 times daily with antibacterial soap. Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion. Your tattoo may start to peel - do not pick or scratch.
DERMSHIELD
If using dermshield, remove after the third or fourth day. With clean hands, remove dermshield by "stretching" like a command strip. Take your time. Do NOT rip off like a bandaid. Heal as instructed above.
Days 8-14
Continue moisturizing 2-3 times daily. Peeling should be complete. Avoid direct sunlight and swimming pools.
Weeks 3-4
Your tattoo is fully healed. Continue to moisturize and always use SPF 30+ sunscreen when exposed to sunlight to maintain color vibrancy.
